And has been for quite awhile, a few thousand years or so!
There are many misconceptions about yoga, so many in fact that we can't list them all here and it would take forever, but here are some general facts about yoga, hot yoga and our studio that might help ease your mind if you are on the fence about coming!
WHAT IS YOGA?! Well it's definitely not this haha!
But yoga is a wide variety of things. The simple definition of yoga is the use of breathing and body movement in conjunction with meditation to produce a state of mental and physical relaxation. But atlas, it is so much more than this as you will see!
WHAT IS 'HOT' YOGA?
Heat is used to replicate the conditions as closely as possible to those of India, where yoga is typically practiced outside and in temps around 100-105 deg. It also helps to loosen the muscles up faster and the sweating helps to detox the body.
CAN ANYONE DO YOGA?
Of course!!! Just like anything new, if you have not tried yoga before, it might seem little intimidating....but trust us, its not! Everyone is welcome, regardless of size, looks, ability, flexibility, strength...... yoga is non judgmental so come as you are because thats the way we like you!!!
WHAT KIND OF YOGA STUDIO ARE YOU?
While there are a few types of yoga out there, we are Hatha based.
WHAT DO I NEED FOR CLASS?
Water, a towel, mat and comfy clothes are all the norm. Oh yeah, and a willingness to grow and change! Of course if you forgot or don't have a mat, you are more than welcome to use one of ours and we have water available at the front desk.
IS YOGA A RELIGION?!
o. While commonly mistaken for a religion, it is not. Yoga does incorporate the teaches of many of the eastern religious philosophies, but it is not a religion. Yoga is accessible to anyone of any religion or none. There are many modern linages of different types of Jewish, Christian and Dharma yogas. It truly is for anyone of any faith or spirituality.
